In 1982, Operation Smile began traveling the globe and treating children with cleft lips, cleft palates, and other facial deformities. By 2008, Operation Smile volunteers treated more than 115,000 children worldwide, and currently has programs in 26 partner countries.
In the developing world, one child in 500 suffers from a cleft lip, cleft palate, or other facial deformity. That’s almost double the rate in the U.S. This means that well over 100,000 children are born with a facial deformity each year in Operation Smile mission countries – yet tens of thousands remain untreated due to lack of medical resources and poverty.
In most cases, these children are hidden away in shame by their families, abandoned, or worse. The merciless taunting and ridicule they live with prevents them from going to school.
October is Family Portrait Month. Heather Swanner Photography along with other elite studios all over the country, has agreed to donate a portion of our proceeds to Operation Smile through October 31st. We feel so strongly about Operation Smile and the work they do all over the world that we are lowering our portrait sitting fee from $100 to a mere $25 – and donating every penny to this truly wonderful cause.
