Heather Swanner photography Studio
Photography for Children with Autism
January 1st, 2009

Ask any photographer about taking pictures of children. It can be an extremely challenging task. Now, think of compounding this frustration by adding autism to the formula. This is an assignment that many photographers would rather not undertake.

Realizing this, parents of children with special needs often do not even attempt to have professional portraits made of their children. Other parents express their frustration, because they are forever hoping for – but not getting- a photo that will bring out the true spirit of their very special son or daughter.

Heather Swanner has been formally trained by Special Kids Photography of America (SKPA), a nationwide nonprofit organization. This unique instruction helps make her interaction with your child easier and you’ll be amazed with the results!

Heather creates portraits that are entirely different from those created in the studio by using surroundings familiar to you or your child – allowing the child to be relaxed and comfortable so their true essence can be captured on film.

Heather has created portraits in her client’s backyards, at the beach, and at local parks – but if you desire a more traditional portrait setting, she is always happy to oblige. Combining her photojournalistic approch and the innocence and joy of a child at play – Heather strives to capture the light and beauty in each and every child she photographs.
